The next book I need to review was set in Birmingham AL in 1963 (tumultuous, much?) but is a fluff piece compared to this. <br /><br />Your statement, "If this book shows anything, it's both how amazingly far we've come, and how far we still have to go," really struck me. This is a sentiment I share whole-heartedly. On one hand, things are an absolute mess and it's hard to see how we will ever figure our shit out. On the other hand, desegregation happened during our *parents* lifetimes -- it's amazing to think how much has changed in such a short period of time.
